Same street food, same culture, different cities.

Tried empanadas in San Juan — Puerto Rico🇵🇷 and it instantly brought back memories of my Dominican trip where I tried the same thing.

Although this version in San Juan was filled with beef and little bigger than the Dominican version, it’s still the same dough-like goodness, it’s also giving Lagos meat pie vibes.

For me having the experience of enjoying the juiciest, softest, fried ripe plantains that just melts in your mouth was a core memory from my last cruise that I wanted to relive so badly.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find the exact type I had before but I’m totally grateful for finding plantain’s and even more grateful for the warm hospitality of the Dominican people to their tourists.

On the flip side, those of you that say you don’t like fried ripe plantains, can you tell us the colour of your problem 🎤

I was so hyped for the Olamide event, only for the day 2 which I booked for, to get cancelled 😭

But instead of sulking, my friend @stayhigh2087 and I turned the night into our own little celebration.

First stop was @ludorestolounge for good food and something sweet to lift our mood, and then we wrapped up the night at @rumours.hfx with laughter, dancing, and the kind of conversations that stay with you.

My favorite part? Hearing my friend say I inspired her car videos just from watching me create content in mine.

Moments like this remind me why I love doing what I do — the joy, the impact, the connection.

Honestly, the night was so wholesome, a good reminder that sometimes the plan flops, but the vibe doesn’t ✨

Challenges are meant to be fun but my daughter was so strict with the rules, babygirl was even giving me tips to go watch Mr.Beast channel to prepare better for next time, omo see wahala 😂😂 plus she kept on insisting that I cheated.

My trip to Ottawa is one for the books because it was packed with interesting activities, plus the most unique and beautiful experiences.

From catching up with the amazing Yinka @aacoopofynx over a nice lunch at @allomoncocoottawa and also receiving a very thoughtful gift from Yinka, to visiting my mentor Chinelo @queenmargarete1 and getting to meet her lovely kids, and my amazing host @tomi.xx who made sure I was very comfortable throughout my trip.

I also went on a food challenge activity, exploring Byward Market in downtown Ottawa to try different foods ( go watch the video I posted about this) — to attending the 9th Annual Food Law and Policy Conference where I learnt a lot and connected with so many people.

Every moment felt very fulfilling and joyful, and I’m truly grateful for times like these.

$50 dollars — 7 different meals, and some change left, now that’s a sweet deal!

I explored the Byward street food market in Downtown Ottawa, and I had pretty much everything from Philippino to Mexican, French, Canadian, American and Caribbean cuisine.

Some of the meals like the chicken skewer had me letting out a happy sigh because it tasted so good.

Six episodes and counting!

Today we explored Northern Nigeria cuisine, particularly a fluffy, tasty street-style dish called MASA from @akara.spot

This food is made with fermented rice cake, into a dough-like shape, and comes in two types, one with meat filling and one without, and it’s often paired with dips like stews or suya spice (mixed pepper spice) like I did.

It is also popular in West and East Africa, and in Mexican and Central American cuisine, going by different names such as: vitumbua, masa harina, waina, and more.

One thing food has taught me on this content series of Beyond Jollof is the power of memories, like how biting into this tasty masa instantly reminds me of my first time having it in Grade 4 with my seat mate Aina (I kind of hope she sees this post somehow).

I truly enjoy making and sharing this content on spotlighting African cuisine and culture with you, it’s why I drive miles hunting down new dishes to try, and it would mean so much to me to see you people enjoy and support this, just as much as I do, so please like, share, leave a comment and follow!
